Red Harbour Church was planted in August 2013 by Shaq and Claire Muetheno. Shaq was an elder at Cornerstone Church Johannesburg for several years before God put the city of Cape Town on his and Claire’s hearts.

Claire and Shaq met in 2002, fell in love and got married in 2004. They were first stirred to plant a church in 2006 but weren’t exactly sure what to do about it. They went on a church planters course which was a real breakthrough in confirming that this is what God wanted them to do. At the time they wanted to plant a church in a suburb in Johannesburg but after chatting to friends and leaders in the ministry it seemed the time wasn’t yet right.

But in 2012 Cape Town began to grow on their heart. Through a series of events, they and the leaders at Cornerstone became convinced that it was now the time.

“Everyone has a story and a voice,” says Shaq. “We want to go out there and tell the story of Jesus.”

And that, indeed, is what Red Harbour Church is all about.  A perfect place for imperfect people.
